As I've gotten older I've come to appreciate the beauty of simplicity. While I still love to be creative in my outfit choices now and again (and I certainly appreciate a crazy shoe or outrageous accessory) I quite like stocking up on basics (i.e. a well made t-shirt: I like Kain, but I'd love to own a piece from The Row, a great-fitting pair of pants, etc.) and then pair it with a standout piece-chunky necklace, insanely high shoe, etc. I do love experimentation when it comes to fashion, but sometimes too much is simply that-much too much. When I see girls with pieces piled on randomly (sequined vest with printed scarf, leggings, PLUS shiny shoes) I rarely think to myself, oooh fashionista. I usually just think they're trying too hard. If there isn't anything cohesive about it, what's the point?

notes on the outfit: Kain shirts are just the best. I sort of live in mine, which is disgusting because you can't wash them in the machine (so I go as long as possible without a trip to the cleaners). They are one size fits all, which to me is pretty genius because I like a slouchier fit, and they are sheer which is perfect for showing off a lacy bra. The pants are Katayone Adeli and they are verrryyyy old (I probably got them in 10th grade, when the local Jacobson's was going out of business) but they are the best-fitting, most gorgeous pants I own. The detail around the waistband is gorgeous, and the color (gray) is simply genius. The necklace is from a thrift shop and, though I am 99% sure it was once a piece in a Fred Flinstone costume, it reminds me of Marni (or some other really amazing costume-jewelry maker).
